Using the decoder below,,,the 3rd position in you serial number is a letter,,,that tells you which plant assembled your car.

My Ranch Wagon has the letter N thus it began life at the Norfolk,Virgina plant,,,which plant built your car?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Position #3 is the Assembly Plant Identification

A = Atlanta, Georgia

B = Buffalo, New York

C = Chester, Pennsylvania

D = Dallas, Texas

E = Edgewater, New Jersey (1953 - mid-1955)

F = Dearborn Michigan

G = Chicago, Illinois

H = Highland Park, Michigan

J = Los Angeles, California

K = Kansas City, Missouri

L = Long Beach, California

M = Memphis, Tennessee

N = Norfolk, Virginia

P = St. Paul, Minnesota

R = Richmond, California (1954 and earlier)

S = Somerville, Massachusetts (through March 16, 1958)

U = Louisville, Kentucky

Y = Wixom, Michigan

22 May 1949, Dallas Morning News, section XV, pg. 6:

“Built in Texas by Texans.” A simple slogan that, but it is the key to the success of the Dallas Ford plant.

Don, Both of my 54's were built in Texas by Texans. When I was in high school I worked for Auto Convoy in the summers parking the new cars about 2 miles from the Dallas Assembly plant. That's back when they were running 3 shifts, 48-50.
Dallas supplied all the Oklahoma cars and around the time of the big Texas-Oklahoma football game, the Ford guys would put the "Built in Texas by Texans" sticker in the back windows of the Okie cars which was normally forbidden. That always stirred up the Okies.
