fyi....There was an absolutely massive glitch in the site software that took down the whole site.
It was esssentially gone and unrecoverable according to the hosting company. And by that, I mean that everything on the forum was gone from day one. They told me that they couldn't help me and that we'd just have to start over....unless....unless....I'd had the forethought to back up the site on my own.
I did.
The only drawback was that the last backup I'd performed was four days before the crash. I figured, even with losing four days of posts on the forum, we came out pretty lucky.
The hosting company also told me that the forum software and the website software are very obsolete and this is what caused the glitch. They recommend that I spend a small fortune to update everything. I'm getting second opinions but it does look like there's a major update necessary and a whole weekend of me sitting down to educate myself on how to do this and then making it happen. If I outsource it, it'll be multiple thousands of dollars. If I do it myself, I should be able to keep the whole cost well below a thousand or so.
I'm too tied up with my business right now, but I do plan on carving out some time in a few months to do this. Until then, I'm backing up every data every two days instead of every four.
