Hi from Des Moines, Iowa

Postby Ruddy2122 » Fri Jul 23, 2010 1:39 pm

Hi everyone.

First off let me say that I already love this site...

My name is Andy Mains and I am from Des Moines, Iowa. I am 34 years old, married and have 3 kids. I love classic cars and about 2 months ago got my first one.

Now on about the car... I was activly looking for a classic when I ran across a '54 on craigslist only about an hour away from home. I called and met the owner that evening with my wife in tow. We went out to his storage area and he opened the door to a 1954 Ford Mainline. She had been sitting all winter. He connected the battery and after a few cranks fired right up. Needless to say I drove her home that evening.

She still has the 6 volt system, vac wipers and all. She has the straight 6 with the three on the tree-no OD. All lights, gauges and radio still work. She has been repainted-not very well I might add-to a maroon with a cream top. Has very little rust under the doors and a small hole in the floor board that has been patched. She purrs like a kitten and turns heads whenever we go out. Paint was badly faded but I have been buffing out and looks ok. Had to put new brushes in the generator and adjust the voltage regulator, but that wasn't too bad.

I have been looking through your site and have already found the tech pages very usefull.

Just wanted to say hi and love the site. I look forward to talking with everyone!

Welcome Andy. I'm glad you found the site. The 54 straight six is a great little engine.

Don't forget to send Tom Hoskins your $20 and get signed up with the club.
