Tom ask me to post these images to help you guys that are restoring your original engines.

This should help with the colors.

The two most used colors are Dupli-Color DE1632 - Chrysler Industrial Red & cream color from Bill Hirsch in Newark, NJ.

The two correct engine color numbers for the '54 Ford engines are: Cream color is Martin Senor #99L-11562. Red color is Ditzler #DDL-3153. (The 256 Cu. In. police interceptor engine came in the mercury engine colors for 1954. - Colors of white and blue).

I would like to note that the literature that these came from was done before the cars went to production. Some times they were painted differant because of the way they were assembled. Has anyone seen an original crankshaft pully that wasn't black? and the breather tube?
Just curious.

Wes, You are right. Both of my original Y Blocks had a black pulley and black road draft tube. Those examples were most likely painted in the design shop before the production folks got things going.

Attached are pictures of the engine in the wagon. A little different from the pics above. Noticed the difference when I was looking for the source of my gas smell, which appears to be from me topping off the tank! Won't do that again. Any ideas why the heads may be red? From all that I know of this wagon it's never been apart, at least since 1976, when the man I bought it from got it. Also, my crankshaft pulley is cream.

The water pump finally quit and I'm looking to buy the paint color referenced in the thread. I am having a tough time finding it; has anyone bought this? If so can you share where?

Thank you,
Matt

Bill Hirsch in Newark, NJ has the cream paint. I think it's a Packard color
